Italo EVO is here: green, elegant, made in Italy & hi-tech!

Rome, 29 November 2017. Italo EVO – the most modern train in Europe – has been presented in Rome Termini station before NTV’s Chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, NTV’s CEO Flavio Cattaneo and the Minister of Economic Development Carlo Calenda.

Italo EVO – fully manufactured in Italy by Alstom – is a state-of-the-art train in terms of comfort, sustainability and aerodynamics, but at the same time, it is elegant just like all other 25 Italo AGV trains.

Italo EVO’s first journey has been between Rome Termini and Rome Tiburtina stations. All travellers present at these stations had the chance to see these ruby red trains and the many guests had the opportunity to see how comfortable they are, while awaiting 7 December, i.e. the day of their official debut. In fact, the first 4 Italo EVO trains will come into service on 7 December 2017, whilst with the new timetable starting from 10 December, NTV’s overall daily services will be 68 – compared to the current 56 – and will then become 90 in 2018.

The new 17 Italo EVO trains will bring NTV’s fleet to 42 trains; this will allow the company to implement them into their network and increase our services. The first changes will be visible already from 10 December, the day in which the new winter timetable comes into force.

There will be an early morning service from Rome to Naples, leaving Rome Termini at 7:40 and arriving in Napoli Centrale at 8:50 (passing also in Afragola).

Services between Rome and Milan will increase, passing from 40 to 50 a day. We will guarantee a train every 30 minutes also during the lunch period - to then have a train every 30 minutes throughout the day. This will allow us to optimise time and reach all destinations in the early afternoon, while enjoying Vyta Santa Margherita gourmet products – only available for Club Executive travellers. On top of this, we will have the new NON STOP services, among which the 6.00 train from Milan, arriving in Rome Termini at 8.59.

Another new service is the last night train leaving Milano Centrale at 20.35 and arriving in Rome Termini few minutes after midnight.

Milan will not only have new services to Rome, as also Turin and Naples will “get closer”. Starting from December, Turin will have daily connections, passing from the current 16 to 18 trains a day and then to 26 daily services in 2018. Naples instead, will have 4 new direct services to Milan every morning.

But that is not all! As of 10 December, there will be 6 new trains from Rome to Florence, 47 a day compared to the current 41. These trains will increase connections also to Bologna – that will have a new train to Milan leaving at 9.03 - and Reggio Emilia – now always more part of NTV’s network. But that is not all for Bologna. There will be another 2 NON STOP trains to Rome; this will increase daily connections to the South of Italy and allow travellers to get faster to both Rome and Naples!

2 new trains also from/to Venice, 10 daily services that will then become 16 in 2018.

However, news does not only regard trains. Italo has always believed in interchangeable train-bus services; that is why we have been the first in Italy to introduce this kind of service and we are now increasing our Italobus network. New connections with all major skiing resorts will be available throughout the winter season. From Verona Porta Nuova – apart from the usual connections to Rovereto and Trento – it will be possible to go to Cavalese, Predazzo, Moena, Vigo di Fassa, Pozza di Fassa and Canazei. From Venezia Mestre station, passengers can use Italobuses to go to Treviso and Cortina d’Ampezzo, whilst from Torino Porta Susa travellers will easily reach Aosta and Courmayeur.

When all Italo EVO trains will come into service, there will be a further increase in Italo’s services. 2018 will see the new North-East line Turin – Milan – Venice – together with other stops along the line – and stops in Bolzano and Trieste.

This train is the pride of all NTV’s men and women; it is our goal after our first 5 years of work” said NTV’s chairman, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo. “The new 17 Italo EVO trains will increase our fleet by 65%. They will allow more services, more connections and the chance to recruit new young staff, as well as have new lines and new stops. This a great challenge that we will face with great enthusiasm, as we have always done”.
